VISIT:

Ariba, Kana, Broadbase, Friendster.

This VC has tried to build many companies like Friendster, WebVan, Living.com and MVP.com by hiring rock-star, big-company talent. Then hyping the company to unsustainable stock-market success.

Even when Benchmark has taken companies public and recognized significant returns off them, in many cases the management team they put in place, the race to go public, or the race to sell the company has caused the company to collapse or have long term problems.

if you are ealy stage, you are talking to the right group. Susan is very strong.

not a bad group. Some solid players, some not so much. Pick your partners wisely!

VISIT:

Roger is a great guy, and John is a rockstar in my opinion. For local money in the midwest, you cannot do any better. They added a guy named Jim who is really pretty solid as well. They know what they know and stick to it and do it well. Plu, when the time is right, they can help attract west coast money.

they stopped fund-raising. One partner left. Not sure how long they will be around. They used to be the group to go to in Michigan, but much of the talented folks have left.

You get a decent deal from these guys. Not a bad group. They are a little young about some things.

they have some history to be aware off. look out for any conflicts of interest.

VISIT:

These guys are pretty good. I suspect some of the overly exuberant postings below. It seems like they are gaming the system.

They are really schizophrenic! Trying to build a brand, but they don't know what they really want yet. Alot of the talented folks turn over very quickly there. That tells you something.

Their incubator is a real concern too. I have heard horror stories from inventors about what the incubator wants in terms of equity.

These guys really impressed me with their honesty and sincerity. That is a real rare attribute in the VC world!

These guys are really solid. Fred is a real gentleman and helpful! Rich is a dynamo. Jay is incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable (and a nice guy!) Joe is a solid operator and brings some very valuable perspectives.

Bob is very strong, when you can get him engaged. Fred is a solid numbers guy, but not a concept guy. Tim is an odd duck.
