Mamoon is Unethical

Pitched them last year. During the meeting, there was obviously no chemistry so and we opted to amicably end the call early. Following, Mamoon proceeded to call my current investors (who he had ever spoken with before) and tell them that I am "unfundable." As you can imagine, this was incredibly damaging on many levels.
This type of unethical behavior is simply unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. Venture capitalists such as Mamoon are the reason we all should be thankful that the funded exists, as well as the transparency it brings. I hope this story warns potential entrepreneurs who are considering USVP.

I have had the pleasure of working with Paul since 1999, when he joined the board of directors at Homestead Technologies. He joined the board originally as an independent advisor, prior to joining USVP, so I have had the chance to work with him on the board while he was an entrepreneur, as well as later when he became a venture capitalist.
I think it is the wealth of his operational experience, in addition to his insightful and intellgent (and often witty) personality, that make it such a pleasure to work with Paul. Paul is always a straight-shooter, and tells it like it is, focusing on the key drivers of the business, whether graphs are going up-and-to-the-right, or times are tough.
There were times when Paul was one of the few people willing to call out problem areas in the business plan/organization, but it is this level of honesty and confidence in his accessment that makes Paul's critique so valuable.
Even though Paul never invested in Homestead (now sold to Intuit), I would definitely go to Paul if I was looking for opportunities to raise money in the future.

Tim was on the Board of my company and I don't think I was ever more micro managed then by someone like Tim. He lied to us a number of times and never had any other interest then himself in our company. I haven't work with any of the other partners there so I can't speak for them other then I found them very professional during our funding process. By all means stay away from Tim at all costs.

While our company is still in the process of preliminary due diligence, and have not passed to the stage of term sheet and in-depth due diligence, I must say I am impressed by USVP's attitude and seriousness. While all along they clarified that this is only the first stage, the depth of the questions and the intention to learn seriously the business of my company was extraordinary and very different than any other VC so far; even VC's that wanted to move forward with a term sheet.
I wish all VC's would be that serious and respectable to entrepreneurs in early stages of discussion.

Without USVP and specifically Irwin Federman's support and guidance Mellanox would have not been a public succesful company as it is today.

My company was recently funded by USVP. The pitching process and due diligence were rigorous but fair. I had the opportunity to spend time with the full partnership and I was impressed by their immediate understanding of the big opportunity that my company is seeking to exploit. Prior to committing to USVP I called several portfolio Founders and CEOs. They all raved about Irwin Federman. "If you are lucky enough to have Irwin as your investor then you should count your blessings" Each call was progressively more complimentary of Irwin and the USVP team.
As I spent more time with Irwin and Mamoon Hamid (Associate) it became clear that they were the right match for my company. Irwin is a legendary investor with real operating experience (Former CEO of a successful semiconductor company) He is a no nonsense guy who focuses on the big picture and has a knack for cutting through the BS. Mamoon also has semiconductor operating experience and has been a great sounding board and a tireless recruiter.
My relationship is early with USVP but based on my experience thus far I would highly recommend USVP to serious entrepreneurs with big ambition.
