Great Team

Last year I emailed Bill cold and he invited me in quickly. Fast process, all of the partners (Bill, Morgan, Kip) were there. We're in the cloud user management space and they have already funded companies in that space. Even though I hadn't yet brought in my team and was pitching solo, they were sincere, nice, polite, direct, and extremely intelligent.
Bill kicked me over to a portfolio company for further review, which didn't go perfectly. When I mentioned it to him, he gave me another try and had another (famous) entrepreneur talk to me.
Their questions were excellent and indicated that they'd already reviewed my doc, but they didn't interrupt or play with their phones. Smart questions -- they all 'got it' and didn't insult the idea/product/team.
I've only pitched a couple of times so don't have much to go on, but this experience was light years beyond the other VC's I've spoken to in Austin and Houston. Silverton is the epitome of professional investors - "smart" money.
Even though they passed, I was invigorated by the experience and even more determined to make it happen (and it is!!) If you have the chance to pitch Silverton, absolutely do it. You won't pay for it in demoralizing or inane conversations. These guys know their stuff and would add a lot to a board, but more importantly they seem to be very decent, real people.

4-5 model update requests, 3+ weeks to respond after we submit their homework. Projections in both directions by years, for a seed stage investment. Amateur.

I've had one call and one casual lunch with Morgan. I found Morgan to be sharp, cordial, and insightful. Whether or not we ultimately work with this VC, our interactions with them to date have been positive.

The Silverton team, particularly Bill Wood, is the best of the best in Austin. For the entrepreneur who is looking for sound advice without a lot of attitude, there is no better firm to work with. Our experience has been extremely positive. Bill always seems to know exactly what the “biggest issue” is at any point in the development of a start-up, and helps ensure that the team is focused on it. That is an extremely valuable asset to a leadership team. I recommend them very, very highly.

Charley is a class act, and a smart guy. If you can get him on your board, go for it. The one downside - Silverton doesn't have much operating expertise, nor vertical expertise. They are reasonably entrepreneur friendly, though, which overwhelms those other comments.

I met with Silverton twice while we were still very very early stage - probably too early for them to invest. They were cordial, upfront and did not waste my time. And most important, I walked out *without* that sinking feeling that I just used for competitive intelligence. Silverton is a must in Austin and probably a better place to start than a big outfit like Austin Ventures.

Silverton is one of the only funds in Austin that routinely does seed funding of 100-500K. Getting Bill Wood involved in your start-up is a very big positive when looking to grow the business as well as raise additional capital. Their terms are the best around and can close quickly. Bill will give you advice and direction that counts and really helps the business.

They are every bit as smart as AV, but have a much healthier attitude toward entrepreneurs.
They're a smaller fund and do more seed stage deals, but tend to stay away from consumer Internet (although they did fund uShip).
I met with them quite a few times and they were very thorough and results/numbers oriented.
