PUBLIC:

I was introduced to Peter Grubstein by a very successful Angel who had reviewed our new venture and given it very high marks. He passed that along to Peter who pretended to review our materials for two months. When we did finally get his shove-off email, it was quite obvious that he hadn't even taken 10 minutes to review our summary.

PUBLIC:

NGEN is a specialty fund, making select investments in materials science applied to clean technologies. They have top notch advisors, are very careful, and from my experience I would say they have a methodical approach to making their investments. As a result, I suspect that they do not move quickly. In my case, as their interest increased in my company and team over time, I had increasing comfort that NGEN would be a good potential partner. We never got down to negotiating a deal, so I can not be sure of this.

At Least a Fast "No"

PUBLIC:

We pitched these guys at the seed stage (materials/nanotechnology), and wound up pitching by conference call. They thought we were too early stage (no surprise!), but gave us the courtesy of a quick "No". While "no" is always disappointing, a quick "no" is better than a drawn out "maybe".

Thoughtful Feedback

Fund: NGEN Partners

Posted by Anonymous on 2007-10-16

PUBLIC:

I had one meeting with Rob Koch, Partner at NGEN. We were a little early out of the gate in terms of working seriously with a VC partner, but our meeting was valuable. Rob gave me some very useful, straightforward feedback, had great questions, and encouraged us to follow up. We did a deal with another firm, but his feedback helped us get there.
