Enjoyable First Meeting

David Wu is new to the firm, and certainly seems to be an improvement upon what I see listed here. Perhaps there's a change underway in the firm?

The team members of Maveron are quite different from what their web site states:

Does anyone have comments on Amy Errett, Ben Choi (from their San Francisco Office)?
Focus on Dan

Dan is the only relevant partner at the firm when it comes to a Yes/No. If he's not behind your deal, there is no way the other partners will approve the deal, so the entire process becomes a waste of your time, even if it looks promising in initial meetings.

With my first company we received an intro and flew across the US to Seattle to pitch Dan and others. We were told that the business would never work, and rather unceremoniously turned down. Well - the business has worked great (top 100 on the Inc. 500, profitable, growing at 80% + a year)...I saw a partner who joined after that at an event and talked about it. His basic comment was "wow we were idiots for passing" - I tried to play that down as many people passed. A short time after that I decided to start a second business. We raised a seed round led by First Round Capital. As we started to consider who to approach for our series B, a friend of mine who had raised a large round from Maveron made an intro - to the same partner who'd told me they were idiots to pass on my first company. I followed up on his email with one of my own, even referencing having met. To this day, I have not received a response. I'm not sure I will approach them again.

The main consumer-centric fund in Seattle. Here's where you go to fund shoe stores, board games, and coffee plays of all sorts.

Only a little bit of follow-up to get a phone conversation with the partner to whom I sent our summary. Received a quick "no" due to not being complementary to their portfolio interest.

The infamous "Starbucks" fund is fairly solid with a number of quirky investments, like "Cranium." Go figure. Very easy to deal with, but seem overwhelmed with dealflow.
