I have known Mark Terbeek and Bret Maxwell over the past ten years, and have worked with them as an entrepreneur in two separate ventures. I have known them to be reasonable, humble, supportive, knowledgeable and open-minded - unfortunately not common traits in the venture capital community. Their own spirit of entrepreneurship has led them to found MK Capital. They have a sense of commitment and pride that is hard to find in VC brands that have been passed on through multiple partnership generations. The partnership is also a significant investor in the fund which ties them even more directly to their successes and failures. Mark has been co-founder of a start-up in an operational role and has much in common with the entrepreneurs that he now backs as an investor. I highly recommend MK Capital to other entrepreneurs looking for financing.

In the fund raising process, you hope to find the right investors to help you take your business to the next level. You hope for professionals with the skills, experience and culture to foster growth and maturity of your business model. I've known many of the MK Capital team for nearly a decade and thru two business ventures. I've found them easy to do business with and supportive of management's philosophies and helpful in taking the business to the next level. Bret, Mark and Karen are great and I would highly recommended them for consideration.

yes, Brett is a paper pusher. To put it nicely, he is an accountant not a VC. Asks dumb questions, and is more focused on excel spreadsheets than on the business. Yes, Bret needs more caffeine. Does not seem to get the business idea - I am not sure if Bret was a co-founder of First analysis as his resume says. probably was one of the first hires. Mark is energetic. Mark hired Bret when he started MK; Mark was an associate at First Analysis - so sometimes if you know someone, you can get lucky. I think Mark needs to give Bret his retirement package and hire people who can connect with entreprenuers

Found them to be very unresponsive post our pitch to them even though they expressed great interest and promissed us that they wanted to take the next step. Took two months to get a return phone call from them to say they were not interested.

even though we did come together at the final run, it was a true pleasure to work with Mark. A good experience, rare in the industry
