Great Experience Prompt, Friendly, Straight, Good Knowledge of Saa S

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by Anonymous on 2013-11-25

PUBLIC:

It took less than 3 months to close the deal from the initial conversation to money at the bank. We were talking to others and ready for due diligence, but it's still a good time-frame for a serious round.

The experience was highly positive, and continues to be such.

Class Act

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by anonymous on 2011-04-01

PUBLIC:

First of all, Bain passed on my deal, but in spite of that I have nothing but positive things to say. They were responsive, thoughtful and asked great questions. In particular I gained a great deal of respect for Jeff Glass. Truly a class act.

The Bain of Your Company

Brought these guys into my company, and they have utterly turfed it. A perfect blend of arrogance and incompetence.

Excellent Partner

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22

PUBLIC:

We've done two rounds with Bain. After three VC-backed successes, we had our choice of firms for this company and chose Bain. Couldn't recommend them more highly. Partnership group gets along very well and engage to help in each other's portfolio companies. Four separate partners have made significant contributions to our business in the form of advice, hiring, customer connections, etc. Mike Krupka is our sponsor and hands down the best venture partner I've worked with. Very bright, thoughful, great contributor at a board level. Excellent sounding board for operating and strategic decisions (he's run something before and that helps). Couldn't recommend a VC more highly.

Smart, but Data Driven...Hard to Imagine as a Seed Player

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by Anonymous on 2008-10-01

PUBLIC:

Had a warm introduction, and a good conversation. Hard to imagine how they would operate as a seed player, however, as they seemed very data/ metrics driven.

Will continue conversations (they seemed interested in being helpful) but I can't equate the data focus with any type of seed investments.

Waste of Time / Not Professional

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by Anonymous on 2008-08-13

PUBLIC:

It took them 3 months to schedule a call, got first associate which asked all the wrong question without even understanding my market. He was so confident that he is the smartest guy ever created.

Later, he passed me to another associate, another call was after a month, no market understanding, did not even got the names of the competition. - he was late for the call, so I got 15 minutes with him.

Another call, he is back asking the questions that he got all the answers to in the previous call.

Last call, calling telling me that I have not provided them with enough information ...

They wanted me to do their homework.

The Real Deal

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by mylar on 2007-10-15

PUBLIC:

Super smart and analytical (it IS Bain after all) and best, have the courage of convictions. These folks don't chase trends or fads or what everyone else is doing. They do huge amounts of homework and when they decide to invest and/or support an entrepreneur or team or company, they are in for real. Not to say they aren't tough on terms - they can be - but they don't view people as disposable, like most VCs.

The Associate Isn't the Partner ...

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by KuH on 2007-09-14

PUBLIC:

We made an elementary mistake here - had a good phonecall with an associate (Dan Allen) and ended up flying out to meet and present to his partner (Ajay) ... and then rapidly discovered that the partner had zero interest. This was a waste of time, and hammered home the idea that dealing with an associate too early is a mistake. Either a partner is interested, or you're not getting money.

They also asked for the full business plan before we flew out - and we sent it: another mistake. They asked a whole series of questions which were mainly covered already in the business plan ... so I was left scrambling on how to treat them: ignorant and do a basic presentation; or knowledgeable and just discuss. For future I'm never sending a full business plan until after they show real interest, whatever they say on the phone.

Professional

Fund: Bain Capital Ventures

Posted by hampstead40 on 2007-08-15

PUBLIC:

I dealt with Bain Capital Ventures a few years ago. I was raising a B round of capital. I knew of them by way of their reputation. I found them to be very professional. Both the partner and the associate I dealt with were polite, smart and fun to be around. They put forth probably the simplest (best) term sheet I have ever seen. Even during the diligence process, I looked forward to my phone calls with them. Even when delivering criticism they did it in a constructive way and not the all to often "gotcha" way.
