They Think You Work for Them

Fund: Genesis Partners

PUBLIC:

They have no problem to run you around, writing, collecting and sending them materials while they don't have the decency to even go and read your website or do some homework before they tell you "we are VERY interested"...

Gil Dibner

Fund: Genesis Partners

PUBLIC:

We worked closely with Gil before pitching to Genesis.
Throughout the process Gil has been professional and honest.
Gil always found the way to ask the right questions, and was helpful and constructive.
If you are thinking of pitching to Genesis, getting Gil onboard is a great start.

We had a totally different experience pitching Genesis. Gil joined in to a meeting with Eyal Kishon. He championed the due diligence in a professional manner and was enthusiastic about the company. During the DD he had put us in contact with potential customers and provided valuable information and shared his findings. Although Genesis investment did not materialized from other reasons, his involvement was positive, professional and respectful. I can not support those claims altogether, it sounds to me like a different person.

Fishing Anyone?

Fund: Genesis Partners

PUBLIC:

I believe these guys think they want to be players in the technology/internet space, but they aren't visionaries - they are fisherman - hoping enough entreprenuers can teach them about the industry so they can do something (but most likely won't).

Gil Dibner

PUBLIC:

I have to give a lot of credit to Gil Dibner.
He's one of the few persons we met from the VC industry that quickly understood what our business is all about and its potential.
His attitude was always positive and constructive, spent a lot of energy meeting with us and giving suggestions and also was honest enough to tell us when things went sour with the VC.

We had several meetings with the partners and most of the people we met gave the impression of being friendly and honest. In addition in our case they moved very quickly (we reached the last phase before TS but were declined).

Overall I think they are probably among the top 3 Israeli VCs that I'll be approaching with my next venture.

Gil Dibner Will Waste Your Time

Met the guy, he's approaching almost every new company in Israel. He will waste your time asking irrelevant questions, don't get excited when he calls..

Honest, No Dragging

We pitched Eddy and got turned down after a couple of weeks of due diligence. They did not drag us and gave a solid explanation - can't ask for more.

PUBLIC:

Out of all the VC's in Israel I have pitched to, Gil definitely is one of the most knowledgeable about the Social Networking Space. He asked the right (hard) questions, made the right conclusions and gave us valuable feedback both on the technology as well as the funding side of the equation. The entire management team felt his inputs were very beneficial to the company. When he informed us that we are a bit "early" for them he spent time (almost 30 minutes on the phone!) explaining in detail what they will need to see in order to move forward and then proceeded to introduce us to numerous people who could fill in the gaps to make us more "fundable". While they did not fund us yet (and I don't know that they will) our time spent with Gil was worth its weight in Gold - he should provide lessons to the other VC's as to how to really add value beyond the money that they bring to the table. I am certain that anyone who has the good fortune of having Gil on their board will be 10X closer to success thanks to his insights, contacts and dedication to the people he works with.

We first met Gil during our discussions with Genesis and found him to be very professional, supportive and positive. His advice was always constructive and he spent many hours, often on his own free time, working with us, discussing our business and providing additional helpful feedback.

Although for various reasons we ended up getting funding from other sources, Gil continued to be enthusiastic about our company and to provide his help and advice. He also put us in touch with a top notch consultant that proved to be invaluable to the company.

My experience working with Gil was very positive and he would definitely be one of the first people I turn to for funding in my future projects.

Great Fund, Greater People...

Fund: Genesis Partners

Posted by Anonymous on 2009-03-22

PUBLIC:

Genesis is one of the leading VC's in Israel.
I had the pleasure of working with them for a very long period of time and I just enjoyed every minute.
The level of the professional team is outstanding, from the administrative assistants in the lobby to the most senior partner - a real class act which is often missing in the Israeli panorama.
I think all and all the people composition in Genesis is truly remarkable, I have had the chance to talk to most of them and most of them left a very positive impression.
I would like to point out 3 different individuals and address them personally.

Eddy Shalev - An incredible professional, a titan in the VC world, a true gentleman.
Gil Dibner - One of the most inteligent, hard working, honest people I know.
Hadar Kiriati - Savvy in his field, a great guy, honest and true.

These guys have a reputation for sticking it to their management teams. If only they were half as smart as they think they are. Check with executives that have worked with them before getting too deep.
