I have been very impressed by 3i both in term of understanding of our business (at the beginning + in the long run, since they entered 2,5 years ago), and in term of what they brought to us. Jean-David Chamboredon (head of 3i Venture Business for France) is a great partner to work with, very clever and helpfull. He helps us in our acquisition strategy a lot (really "hands on") + does not loose long-term focus, when some VCs' can sometime be short-term minded.

PUBLIC:

I heard 3i stopped doing startup investing and refocused the entire team on LBO or some other way of making big money.

So don't waste your time approaching them with a startup, they won't listen (at least not in 2008 - things change).

PUBLIC:

Great team and high level required! They recently IPOed Poliris, and made a lot of money. Venture investments in France include Priceminister and Screentonic. Highly recommand Jean-David for his smartness (checkout his blog at http://jdch.blogspot.com). Not into early stage, 3i rather invests to boost businesses. Great expectations in terms or returns.
