Trashing Entrepreneurs is No Way to Run a VC Business

Fund: Selby Venture Partners

Posted by Anonymous on 2008-06-17

PUBLIC:

Doug Barry is one of the worst VC's I have pitched to.

He sat through the presentation and looked at us like we were dirt. He questioned the whole notion of whether we should be entrepreneurs. I have had other VC's give negative feedback on the pitch - which is ok - but to be treated badly at a personal level was uncalled for. My partner and I both have strong accents and at one point we were getting taunted for pronunciation.

Eventually we got funded by a leading VC on Sandhill road, but this negative experience will stay with me for a long time.

Needless to say, we got no useful feedback on the pitch itself. A VC staff member at the meeting who claimed to be a "technical expert" was in fact the most clueless.
