Good Terms, Smart Guys, Tiny Company

Fund: MD Capital, Inc.

Posted by Anonymous on 2007-12-04

PUBLIC:

I successfully closed a round of funding with MD Capital two months ago. Mike and Diego are the only two people at this company that matter.

The company doesn't seem to have a "fund" per se (not in the conventional sense at least). However, it is obvious that they are well connected to a lot of Los Angeles area money. As such, pitching to MDC felt like sitting down with a wealthy angel. However, they are very hands-off (which I understand many angels/groups are not) and they did put me in touch with some really great people.

I'm not sure I would agree with their self-classification as an incubator -- although they did offer us pro-bono office space (with some strings). These guys don't look like they fit any mold. Furthermore, it seems like they are as involved in other businesses as they are VC game (which can be a bad/annoying thing at times). MD Capital, is certainly a very "Refreshing" company.

But buyer beware, they aren't going to provide you with a lot of the guidance/mentorship that most young start-ups need. Also, you probably shouldn't waste your time if you aren't web-based. These guys have a knack for getting anything that looks, sounds or smells like a website but they don't have a lot of scope when it comes to other industries.

Disclosure: I got an email (mass mail or mail merge I suspect) notifying me about their profile and asking me to give them feedback.
