Lesson in Being Careful

Fund: BlueStream Ventures

Posted by Anonymous on 2007-10-28

PUBLIC:

In the course of building a relationship with Bluestream I disclosed a key customer that our, not yet funded, company was about to do business with. Turns out one of the Bluestream partners had a relationship with someone at the prospect. Two months later, Bluestream had funded a competitor and we found ourselves competing for the business. It eventually worked out in our favor, but was a lesson learned vis-a-vis the character of this firm and, more broadly, the fine line one must walk in disclosing to help build the case for funding and not disclosing to protect the business.
