Super smart and analytical (it IS Bain after all) and best, have the courage of convictions. These folks don't chase trends or fads or what everyone else is doing. They do huge amounts of homework and when they decide to invest and/or support an entrepreneur or team or company, they are in for real. Not to say they aren't tough on terms - they can be - but they don't view people as disposable, like most VCs.
