Avoid VC's with an Enterprise Background for Web Deals...

TheFunded.com Advice

PUBLIC:

i am astonished to find that some VC's still dont understand that ad networks pay their publishers. the worst of the lot seem to be those VC's that have an enterprise background.

So unless you are pitching a conventional deal where buyer pays seller, just avoid these and you will say a lot of time and hassle.

PUBLIC:

Inquiring your investors overall web experience before presenting your web site project is essential for communication. Ask your investors about their favorite web sites, web 2.0 tools and programs. It turns out that not many investors out there are web savvy. Make sure you clarify this as early as possible.

Surround Yourself with People Who Have Been There, Done That

PUBLIC:

Many venture funds today "employ" people with little or no venture experience, much less actual in-the-trenches operating experience. Many newcomers are merely resource allocators and could function just as well in a mutual fund.

Take the time to seek out those partners who have real business experience and, if at all possible, venture experience. These people are jewels when faced with problems to be solved. Those without experience can freeze. They lack know-how in working through the tough issues and tend to become dysfunctional and a major distraction.

Don't let the newcomers gain their experience with your company as there may be big price you pay for their education.
